Case Study: Hongcheon Valley Farm Refresh

Client: A 3.8 PH/s farm in Hongcheon planning a partial hardware refresh in early 2025.

Challenge: The operator needed to choose between restocking Antminer S19 XP units or switching partially to Whatsminer M50S rigs. Both were available from Korean distributors at similar per-TH prices, but maintenance history on the M50S was limited in their region.

Our work: We assessed three units of each model over five days. The fleet audit compared board swap times, spare-part lead times from two distributors, and thermal pad replacement difficulty.

Outcome: The M50S scored 7.8/10 on serviceability versus 6.2/10 for the S19 XP, primarily due to faster board extraction and shorter spare-part lead times from a local MicroBT service partner. The farm ordered twelve M50S units and kept four S19 XP rigs for density-critical racks where the smaller form factor mattered.
