Antminer S19 Pro vs Whatsminer M50S: A Serviceability Comparison
Our Chuncheon bench data on board swap times, spare-part lead times, and diagnostic access for two popular rigs above 0.05 PH/s.
Farm operators shopping for new hardware above 0.05 PH/s often compare the Antminer S19 Pro and Whatsminer M50S on hashrate and power draw. We compared them on what matters when a board fails: how fast you can get back to full hashrate.
Test Setup
Both rigs were assessed at our Chuncheon workshop in March 2025 using identical tooling: standard Phillips and Torx drivers, thermal pad stock from our shelf, and two technicians performing independent teardowns. Times were averaged across three board swaps per rig.
Board Swap Time
The M50S averaged 11 minutes per board swap. The slide-rail mechanism on middle slots allows extraction without removing the PSU shroud. The S19 Pro averaged 18 minutes because the rear board clips sit behind a metal shroud that must be partially detached first.
One caveat: the M50S front board slot requires a different extraction angle that our technicians initially missed. After documenting the correct sequence in our report video, subsequent swaps dropped to 9 minutes for that slot.
Diagnostic Access
The S19 Pro scored higher here. Bitmain places the control board diagnostic port on the front face, reachable without removing any hash boards. Serial logs can be pulled via the built-in SSH interface on most firmware versions.
The M50S diagnostic header sits behind the third hash board on certain revisions. Reading serial logs without board removal requires a firmware version that supports remote diagnostics — not all M50S units ship with this enabled.
Spare Part Availability
Through three Korean distributors, new M50S hash boards averaged 14 days lead time in March 2025. S19 Pro boards averaged 18 days from the same distributors. Refurbished boards were available for both models within 7 days, though refurbished stock fluctuates.
Thermal Pad Replacement
Both rigs use pre-cut thermal pads between the hash board and heatsink. The S19 Pro pads are adhesive-backed and tear easily on removal — budget one extra pad per swap. The M50S uses compression-fit pads that can be reused if removed carefully.
Our Recommendation
Choose the M50S if your farm has limited maintenance staff and you need the fastest board swaps. Choose the S19 Pro if remote diagnostics and a larger technician community matter more than swap speed. For operations running both, stock spare boards based on the longer lead time — currently the S19 Pro at 18 days.
